At least thirty-one people have died in a shooting at a children’s center in Nong Bua Lamphu province, Thailand. Among these, there would be many children.

Police Colonel Jakkapat Vijitraithaya reported that there were “23 child victims”. The attacker, Panya Kamrab, also reportedly used a knife.

The surveys

At first, news spread that the suicide bomber was wanted by all the armed forces in the province and that a search and arrest warrant had been issued for him.

According to the first reconstructions, the killer, armed with a gun and a knife, burst into the kindergarten located in an area of northeast Thailand and attacked anyone in his path, children and adults. National police spokesman Achayon Kraithong said so.

Who is Panya Kamrab

He was thought to be armed with a rifle, a pistol and a knife. Subsequently, Reuters pieced together the exact dynamics of the case. Kamrab allegedly stormed into the asylum, shooting his wife and son, killing them. After that, he committed suicide.

Kamrab was a 34-year-old former policeman. Last year he was fired for drug trafficking.

Mass shootings are very rare in Thailand. The latest was in 2020, when a soldier killed at least 29 people and injured 57 in a widespread attack at four locations near the town of Nakton Ratchasima.
