Robert KingWhatsApp down throughout Italy: thousands of reports, it’s happening now. Huge problems for the messaging app but don’t panic.
Millions of Italians panicked and for several minutes communications interrupted throughout the country. What is happening? Simple, just before 9am this morning on October 25, WhatsApp crashed and until now there was no way to restart it.
Thousands of reports have already arrived from various Italian cities such as Rome, Turin, Milan, Naples, Florence, Palermo and Bari complaining of inefficiencies in sending and receiving messages. In practice, the app does not seem to be able to connect to the network even though no one has yet figured out the causes.
But the Downdetector site, which monitors outages, has been filled with reports.
The mail service is offline even in the desktop version and actually works for everyone. However, other Meta services, such as Facebook and Instagram, seem to work fine.
WhatsApp down throughout Italy: thousands of panicked Italians, checks do not work
Last night already, around 6 p.m., the service had had some problems. The reports are multiplying on Downdetector, a portal that collects reports on the malfunctioning of applications and sites in Italy: users complain of the impossibility of communicating both in groups and in simple chats and of the non -appearance of the double control of the reception of messages. There are those who write that they tried to uninstall the application and reinstall it, but without success. Neither the cause nor the extent of the disruption is yet clear. However, they are not problematic for other applications owned by Meta, such as Instagram and Facebook.
Apparently, WhatsApp is not working: reports on platforms such as Downdetector are multiplying at high speed – in the space of ten half hours, reports have increased to more than 20,000 in Italy alone, and there are countless confirmations also in the rest of the world. Apparently, at the same time, major Italian carriers including WindTre, Vodafone, TIM, Iliad and Fastweb, as well as other services such as Instagram, are also experiencing widespread issues.
If you only see one checkmark, don’t worry. The messaging system just isn’t working: there’s a temporary outage that silently blocks and leaves many Italians using Meta’s messaging app. The malfunction began this morning at 9 a.m. There are thousands of reports on Downdetector, the specialized platform that collects and reports issues on various sites and apps. Already yesterday afternoon the first malfunction
The greatest number of reports arrives in these minutes from cities such as Turin, Milan, Rome, Naples, Bologna, Perugia, Bari… This is the second malfunction of the Meta house in less than 24 hours. On Monday, October 24, after 6 p.m., there were already numerous reports of those who could not use Facebook. As it is logical to think, technicians are already working to solve this problem which, inevitably, blocks communications at work and at the personal level of an entire country and beyond.
reports of those unable to use the Meta-owned messaging system (Facebook) were enforced. A temporary “down” that left the many millions of Italians on their feet who intensively use the application every day, which has established itself as a substitute for the old SMS. Then a new malfunction, in the morning of today, Tuesday, October 25, from around 9 am.
“We are aware that some people find it difficult to send messages. We are working to restore WhatsApp as soon as possible,” a spokesperson for Meta said in a note sent to the Courier.
Meanwhile, thousands of reports on Downdetector, the platform that collects and communicates problems on various sites and applications, from all over Italy. Most users report that they are unable to send and receive messages. Issues also on the desktop version of the app. WhatsApp is blocked (Instagram)
The start date of the malfunction, October 24, coincides with the date WhatsApp had indicated to officially say goodbye to some old devices. Who are no longer able to support the application. In particular, regarding iPhones, phones updated to iOS 10 and iOS 11 (eg iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c models) will no longer be able to enjoy WhatsApp, while for Android at least version 4.1 is required. Suggested coincidence: is it possible that the software update caused some problems and therefore, therefore, a “down” on all devices?
