After a report made and published on the official page of a well-known Italian newspaper, some really interesting and shocking data about some brands and types of pasta have come to light. Here is what it is. On the supermarket shelves we find many different brands and we often rely on the best known and most widespread, because in our opinion being so popular with consumers means that they are also of excellent quality. Unfortunately, this is not always the case because through some research, shocking truths have come to light. Let’s see which ones together.
Some brands of pasta (among which we also find the most famous), have been defined by this important newspaper as the worst, because the analyzes carried out on them have found the presence of pesticides and in particular of a substance really toxic for our organization. , called glyphosate. The worst thing is that most of the time the large category of consumers ignores all this. So let’s try to clarify and understand where this particular substance comes from. Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum, non-selective herbicide, active both on the aerial part, which includes both the stem and the leaves, and on the hypogeal part, that is to say the roots.
Glyphosate has the ability to inhibit a specific plant enzyme essential for the synthesis of aromatic amino acids. This herbicide is widely used with success to kill weeds, which are often very persistent and eventually outcompete other plants. Problems due to accidental ingestion of glyphosate consist of hormonal alterations, in particular a drop in testosterone, estrogen and progesterone levels. In women, the side effects are related to the predisposition to cancer of the sexual organs, i.e. ovaries, uterus, etc.
However, the use of glyphosate in agriculture is not prohibited, the law only recommends a limited use (below a certain maximum threshold) in general, however, even if the values recorded are indeed below the threshold legal, the association of glyphosate with another pesticide, it is certainly not reassuring, even less positive for our well-being. In particular, the most frequent couple is composed of glyphosate and chlorpyrifos. The latter is a toxic insecticide known especially for the developing brain (therefore very harmful for children) and can even cause serious permanent damage.
