Nutella is one of the favorite foods of adults and children alike. Its origins were dictated by the Ferrero family: they worked hard to create in the shortest possible time a food that met the needs of malnourished children who populated the poorest regions of the country. The first jars of spreadable hazelnut cream appeared on the shelves of Piedmontese shops in the early 1960s. This too, like many other foods, has been perfected over the years.
At first it was a butter chocolate that was cut into slices and placed on bread to enrich it: this product was marketed under the name “Giandujot”. This was soon replaced by a much more practical form: the supercream. As its name suggests, it was an ancestor of Nutella as we know it today. In fact, it contained a number of vegetable oils which made the cream easy to spread. From that moment, no one could do without Nutella.
It has been used to enrich many desserts and many people have started to enjoy cooking using it to garnish cakes and much more. It is a phenomenon that has involved many countries around the world, until the establishment of World Nutella Day, celebrated on February 5. To this day, in the pantries of every family there is at least one jar of Nutella and unfortunately, more and more often, this food is misconsumed because real abuses are committed.
Experts point out that it is both good and harmful to our health, but what is the right amount of Nutella to consume? As always, it is essential to consult the label. Nutella contains few foods, but not all of them are very healthy. The best ingredient is the hazelnut, but it is present in a low percentage. The rest is made up of white sugar, palm oil, bitter cocoa and skimmed milk powder. This means that 3 tablespoons of Nutella contains more than 3% saturated fats, which are very harmful for our body.
In addition to saturated fats, the white sugar present causes many problems in the digestive tract and could induce blood sugar. According to experts, Nutella should be consumed no more than twice a week for a total of about 15 grams. In addition, they advise us to limit the consumption of industrial products in order to maintain a healthier lifestyle and live long before chronic diseases.
