The seventh art delights people of all ages, including children. However, there is a somewhat silly convention that the little ones are not able to grasp more complex storylines due to their young age, which results in a series of silly productions that don’t appeal to all audiences. However, every now and then the studios hit the nail on the head with more elaborate films and a nice message at the end. Thinking about it, we’ve picked five children’s films that don’t underestimate audience intelligence and deliver great stories. Check!
Seven minutes after midnight
Directed by Spaniard JA Bayona, this dramatic fantasy tells the story of Conor (Lewis MacDougall), a boy in transition from childhood to adolescence, and discovers that his mother (Felicity Jones) can die at any time of the year. after a terminal illness. . Then they will move in with their grandmother (Sigourney Weaver), a lady full of rules and with no close connection to her grandson. Tormented by these sweeping changes in life and the bullies on the streets, Conor begins to have nightmares about his mother’s death. Then, a monstrous humanoid tree (Liam Neeson) begins to appear to him, prompting questions and an emotional adventure for the boy. It is a fantastic story of maturity and love. And the best part is that it’s available on Amazon Prime Video.
Hugo Cabret’s invention
Famous for his detective films, the versatile and brilliant Martin Scorsese surprised the world by bringing this fantastic story about friendship and family wrapped in a beautiful tribute to cinema. In the plot, Hugo (Asa Butterfield) is an orphan boy who lives in a train station in Paris at the start of the 20th century. Right before his death, the boy’s father showed him a newly discovered scheming automaton. Then, after the death of his father, Hugo tries to unravel the mystery of this little robot. In the middle of his antics, he finds himself on a great adventure with Isabelle (Chloë Grace Moretz), a girl from the station who has a special key. Anyone who wants to watch, can rent on Google Play.

Bridge to terabitia
Starring a little boy Josh Hutcherson, this film is based on a book which, in turn, is based on a true story. In the plot, Jess (Hutcherson) is a young man entering his teens in a small town in the United States. The only boy in the midst of four sisters, he ends up being accused more intensely by the father, while going through his problems in an introspective way. In school, he is also far from one of the most popular, but he tries to conquer his space by being the fastest student in recess and physical education. However, that changes when Leslie (AnnaSophia Robb) a different girl appears and beats him in front of everyone. Unusually, they begin to develop a great friendship and begin to play in an imaginary magical world in the forest. Anyone who’s seen it knows that reality hits hard in the midst of this fantasy, so this is one of those truly unforgettable movies. Unfortunately, Ponte Para Terabítia is no longer available for streaming.
Upside down
It’s hard to talk about mature children’s movies without thinking about Fun Mind. Directed by Pete Docter and starring a cast of mostly American comedy series, such as Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader and Phyllis Smith, this cute and colorful visual animation is far from a silly comedy made just to entertain kids. . That’s because the story is about the feelings of Riley, a little girl who changes towns and has to deal with her feelings – joy, sadness, fear, disgust, and anger – typical of early adolescence. However, this complex adventure takes place inside the protagonist’s head, when Sadness and Joy begin to fight over who will control Riley. It’s a deep intrigue about understanding and accepting your feelings. Anyone who wants to watch it will find it in the Disney + catalog.
My pet monster
Released without much fanfare in 2007, My Pet Monster is a magical story about wartime friendship. Set during World War II, the plot is about Angus (Alex Etel), a boy whose father went to war and has yet to return. Although he has expectations for the return of the Patriarch, the boy must face an army squad that settles into the family castle and with a strange little creature born from an egg he has found on the beach. In this turmoil of conflict, the creature, nicknamed Crusoe, begins to grow taller and becomes nothing less than the Loch Ness Monster. Now he has to find a way to hide his friend from the military so they don’t end him. And the good part is, the movie is on Netflix.
