Published

on

January 2021 brought great debuts for streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney +. Thinking of extracting the best from it, CinePOP has separated some of the best productions that have entered the catalogs and that you can check out this weekend.

WandaVision – Disney +

Enjoy watching:

The first two episodes of the first original Marvel Studios series are now available on Disney +. Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, the bizarre production takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame and shows the couple Wanda and Visão living an “ordinary” life in the American suburbs, if you can call it ordinary. As the episodes progress, new pieces of this mysterious puzzle will emerge until they are completed in March. The lives of superheroes are depicted in different styles and parodies of American television classics. The first two episodes, already in the catalog, adapt the comedies of the 40s and 50s, showing an unexpected and bizarre plot of what appears to be a very promising series.

Hidden Kingdom – Disney +

Released in 2013 without much hype by Blue Sky Studios, this 3D animation has a FANSTASTIC look to tell the story of a girl who goes to her father’s house in the forest to solve a family problem. However, she eventually finds an object that narrows her down and introduces her to a kingdom hidden in the forest, full of magical creatures and guardians of nature who wage a war to decide the future of life in the kingdom.

The Assistant – Amazon Prime Video

Super acclaimed overseas, The Assistant tells the story of Jane (Julia Garner), an aspiring film producer who landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul. Your daily life is very similar to that of any other helper. But, as Jane goes through her daily routine, she begins to realize all the abuse that involves her work environment and professional position. The film depicts the physical, psychological, sexual and moral abuses in the film industry and how the archaic practices that have shaped this market, as well as how they perpetuate these abuses.

Mamma Mia! Here we are again – Netflix

Released 10 years after the original, this sequel to the 2008 musical phenomenon begins on the day the hotel opens on the island, when friends and family of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) arrive for the ceremony and remember gradually the stories they had with Donna. (Meryl Streep). Through flashbacks and musical numbers from the group Abba, we accompany young Donna (Lilly James) on her adventures and misfortunes until she finds her place on the island of Kalokairi.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle – Netflix

The reboot that has given a new face to the franchise, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a very fun adventure about a group of friends who are sucked into a mysterious video game, where they saw the powerful protagonists who must prevent a terrible villain to conquer the lands and use the powers of a magical gem to destroy the inhabitants of this world. However, none of the youngsters seem to understand much of what is going on, so they must learn to use their new bodies (The Rock, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan) to survive Jumanji’s threats by having “only” three lives.
