The Rome Film Festival, now in its seventeenth edition, premiered Romolus II: War for Rome on the second day of Friday, October 14. The second season of the Sky Original television series, produced by Sky Studios, Cattleya and Groenlandia in collaboration with ITV Studios, which bears the signature of Matteo Rovere. Public viewing of the platform will be available from Friday 21 October on Sky Atlantic and streaming only on NOW.

The second chapter of the Sky Original series dedicated to the birth of Rome will be divided into 8 episodes. Also, like the first season and director Rovere’s previous film Il primo re, Romolus II: War for Rome is filmed entirely in protolatin. In the new episodes we will find the brothers Yemos and Wiros who, after having founded and consecrated their city, Rumia, will have to protect it from the attention of a very powerful enemy: Titos Tatios, the king of the Sabines. The two brothers will soon become a symbol of welcome and freedom and between battles and new conflicts they will be forced to face the prophecy which announced: “the false king will find death. The true king, on the other hand, will live.”

Synopsis Romolus II: War for Rome

Yemos, Wiros, Ilia, the group of Ruminales and the citizens of Alba loyal to them have taken possession of the land that was once Velia. Here they build a new free and independent kingdom called Rumia. This is why Tito Tazio, a young and formidable king of the Sabines, feeling threatened by their growing power, organizes a meeting with the two kings to celebrate a rite intended for an alliance. This visit, however, will turn out to be an ambush aimed at submission. The Roman people will be able to escape the ambush thanks to an idea of Ilia who takes hostage the Sabine Priestesses, very dear to King Titus.

It is a gesture that will soon lead to a clash. When the Sabines invade Lazio to free the priestesses, the possibility of an impending war and the two brothers’ differing perspectives on how to deal with the matter lead to the first conflicts, putting their partnership in jeopardy. It will be a sign of an impending crisis that will lead to the answer to the central question of the entire season: who will claim the title of sole king? Who will take the name Romulus?

The director explains the reason for choosing protolatin

During the press conference for Romolus II: War for Rome which took place following the preview screening at the Rome Film Fest, the director explains the reason for a particular choice made within the television series which intrigued a lot. We are talking about the use of protolatin. About this decision, Matteo Rovere says: “my goal was to create a totally immersive product. It would also give a bit of the experience that is experienced in the dining room. An experience that takes us away from the sofa at home and takes us into these cold swamps made of images, but also of sounds. The voice is one of these sounds. Obviously, the success of this risky experience, as the director says, was also facilitated by the contribution of the great talent of the actors.
