In a genre that constantly struggles with a lack of originality, Continência ao Amor comes across as an unexpected surprise from Netflix – appropriating classic romantic clichés to engage a more diverse audience in a passionate story about redemption and healing.
Released a week ago (29), the film is currently the most watched in streaming and conquers subscribers.
In the plot, an up-and-coming, feminist singer and a young right-wing marine decide to get married in order to solve their financial problems. Naturally, unexpected circumstances will transform the arrangement made between them into an unexpected and sensitive love – born out of suffering and their differences.
On social media, Netflix subscribers raved about the production:
yesterday i watched the salvation of love and i burst into tears it showed the real reason why people fall in love, the care, the looks, the laughs, the support, goes way beyond physical contact…

“Continência ao amor” the film that made me cry like a convict, but I also show myself the power of people to fall in love with the care, the look, the simple things in life… and it’s beautiful to seeing the way I cared for each other even when they weren’t well, and that’s love.

Addressing right-wing and left-wing political views in mostly indirect ways, the production also briefly reflects on the extremist positions on both sides and how the line separating the two contrasts is thinner than it seems. Wasting no screen time with unnecessary ramblings on this topic, Kyle Jarrow and Liz W. Garcia’s screenplay provides a metaphor for love in such a polarized time as it sets out to tell a delicate and symbolic story. on family restoration, beginnings, healing and redemption.
Bringing in some of the elements that make up the traditional hero’s journey, Continência ao Amor pays homage to American troops – constantly drawn to incomprehensible wars – and makes music an unexpected detail that sets the tone and pace of the plot. With Sofia Carson showing off her talent in original songs, the drama juxtaposes two very different characters united by a love never expected.
And rocking the public until its last minutes, Continência ao Amor is a refreshment that still allows itself to bring precious lessons on life together and the meaning of family. Formulated but still identifiable, the new Netflix Original may not break new ground in the romantic drama genre, but it invigorates cheesy ways with preciousness and plenty of charisma.
