If you haven’t watched the fourth episode of WandaVision, then skip this article if you don’t want to receive spoilers.
Introduced on WandaVision as “Geraldine”, actress Teyonah Parris had already been announced as the interpreter of the character Monica Rambeau even before the start of the series. After the events of the third episode of the series, “Geraldine” left the reality of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and now, in the fourth episode, she has finally regained consciousness and remembered her true identity. She had previously appeared in the movie Captain Marvel (2019). As the feature film is set in the 1990s, she was just a child dreaming of going to space, just like her mother, Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). However, he was “blipped” by Thanos (Josh Brolin) in 2018 and came back to life in 2023, due to the events of Avengers: Ultimatum (2019). Working as an agent for ESPADA, an organization founded by Maria Rambeau to monitor space activities on Earth, she ends up being sent on a mission to investigate the bizarre cases of a New Jersey town and ends up getting involved in the psychotic plot. by Wanda. In the comics, she’s the original Captain Marvel, but changes names over the years, including Photon, her codename for her mom in the Air Force. Interestingly or not, the origin of his powers also involves a multidimensional plot. In other words: her presence in the series may even indicate that we are seeing the emergence of a new heroine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Little Monica made her debut in Captain Marvel (2019).
Created by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr, Monica Rambeau was the first black superhero to be part of the Avengers. She starred in The Amazing Spider Man Annual # 16 (1982) and took over the comics, even turning Spider-Man into a supporting role in his own story. With no connection to Captain Mar-Vell or Carol Danvers, Monica was a member of the New Orleans Coast Guard when she went on a mission to help an old family friend prevent South American dictator Ernesto Ramírez from ‘use your generator. attack the USA. The plan was to recover the prototype, but during the fight, scientist Felipe Picaro activated the machine and they were forced to destroy it. The generator ended up launching its extra-dimensional energy beams, which hit Monica. With the explosion, the Coast Guard Lieutenant gained the ability to absorb and transform his body into any type of energy, giving him alpha threat status.
On her first appearance in the comics, she travels to New York City to enlist the help of the Fantastic Four to help her get rid of the excess energy that threatens her life. Along the way, she meets Spider-Man, who gets beaten up and starts following her. Arriving at the Baxter Building, The Thing takes him to the Avengers Mansion, where Tony Stark must find a way to help him before tragedy occurs. Faced with such a powerful creature, the Avengers invite him to be some type of intern. Overseen by the Vespa and Captain America, Monica masters her powers, joins the core team, and even leads the world’s most powerful heroes a few times.
With her comic book look based on the Sex Symbol Pam Grier, WandaVision’s Geraldine / Monica pays homage to the actress, using costumes that make reference to Pam. Still without demonstrating any of the character’s powers in the comics (flying, moving at the speed of light, becoming intangible, invisibility, and manipulating energy), the character is “just” a special agent of the SWORD. as she was sent to investigate the case of Wanda, who manipulates this dimension, won’t exactly come as a surprise if she gains her powers at the end of the series. If that does happen, it’s worth remembering that we have a Miss Marvel series in production, which may indicate the character’s involvement in the series and future MCU films, making her a “Captain MarvelVerse”.
Enjoy watching:
Despite appearing as Captain Marvel in the comics, Monica Rambeau ended up passing the name on to Carol Danvers, who at the time even existed, but adopted the name Binary. The name “Captain Marvel” was a ploy to allow Marvel Comics to retain the copyright to the name “Captain Marvel”. Since Captain Marvel had died in the classic Captain Marvel’s Death, Casa das Ideias had to create a new heroine in order not to lose her name. However, over the years, Monica has adopted several names. Along with Captain Marvel, she’s also been in Photon, Pulsar, and currently in the comics, her name is Specter. But it’s that story, right? Both the film and the series put a lot of emphasis on the codename of Monica’s mother, Maria Rambeau, being Photon. So it’s likely that, if she gains her powers, she’ll adopt the codename Photon in the future of the MCU.
