The sci-fi ‘Voyagers’, starring Tye Sheridan and Colin Farrell, debuts this Friday (09) in international theaters, but the specialist critic has already had a chance to check out the production firsthand and the main reviews are already among us.
And with a 33% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of this posting), the film has been slaughtered by critics, being seen as a much inferior version of the classic ‘Lord of the Flies’.
Additionally, the production has been severely criticized for not having fluidity in its script, ensuring a plot lacking energy and unable to capture attention.

“Burger’s stupid attempt to update ‘Lord of the Flies’ makes you want a good old-fashioned school bus and a pig’s head on a stick. – Johnny Oleksinski, New York Post
“Essentially a weightless ‘Lord of the Flies‘, Neil Burger’s Voyagers, however, looks like a sci-fi pilot on The CW, to those who find ‘The 100’ very unsanitary. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times
“‘Voyagers’ isn’t badly done and a handful of actors are talented, but there is something mechanical, schematic, and a little monotonous about it.” – Owen Gleiberman, Variety
Enjoy watching:
“The fast pace of the film, its deficit of emotional energy, its ugly colors, its repetitive chases by more runners … and the common tendency of its actors to growl and scowl make those 108 minutes seem endless.” – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal
“The first 70 minutes of ‘Voyagers’ are so devoid of humor, passion and spontaneity that it is difficult to interact with the characters.” – Chris Hewitt, Minneapolis Star Tribune
“It sounds like the product of a brainstorming session that started with the ‘Nostromo for Teens’ concept.” – Katie Walsh, Tribune press service
