For Twitter, with the start of the Elon Musk era, the massive and brutal layoff of half of the company’s 7,500 employees begins. However, they are responding with a class action lawsuit.
A few days after the acquisition of the platform for 44 billion dollars, and after the torpedoing of top managers, the richest man in the world goes on the attack. This was reported by The New York Times, which viewed a copy of the email sent to employees.

The message instructs them to go home and not return to the office on Friday November 4 as the company makes the cuts. The reaction of former Twitter workers was immediate: at first, the class action – that is, a mass class action lawsuit – against the giant who did not give the right notice. The email, from a generic address under Twitter’s byline, did not mention the total number of layoffs.
Twitter, employee class action
“In an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce,” it read. “We recognize that this will impact a number of people who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s success in the future.” After receiving the email, a group of former Twitter employees filed a class action lawsuit in San Francisco court against Elon Musk’s company.

Expelled from their accounts
The former employees accuse the giant of not having received the 60-day notice required by law and of having learned of their dismissal a few hours earlier. That’s when they found their Twitter accounts blocked. American media reported it. In an internal communication sent yesterday, the San Francisco company warned employees that they would receive an email if they were laid off. But many employees have started sharing on social media that they can no longer access their accounts, only to find they have been kicked out.

The Elon Musk era in the Twitter universe started without a little controversy. This decision to lay off half of the employees alongside the managers was one of the many choices that ended up in the crosshairs of the most critical, such as the increase in the price of the blue service Twitter, a series of premium services of the platform , for $8 a month. An initiative that also provoked an ironic reaction from Ankara.
Twitter, Musk and Turkey
After the announcement in recent days, in fact, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had announced the start of negotiations with the new owner of Twitter. “For us it might be different,” Erdogan said in a TV interview, as Anadolu reports, joking that he might also conduct diplomatic business with him. In 2017, Elon Musk traveled to Ankara to meet Erdogan and discuss how to work together to produce a Turkish electric car. The idea of collaboration in the automotive sector was then abandoned and Turkey worked independently for the production of an electric vehicle that was presented these days. Ankara is, however, engaged in a collaboration with Musk’s aerospace company Space X, through which Turkey launched two satellites into space in 2021.
