‘Twister’: A Classic Disaster Movie Is Getting A SEQUEL With The Return Of Helen Hunt

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures is developing a sequel to the classic disaster film “Twister,” released in 1996.

The website says the studio is looking for directors for the project alongside production company Amblin Entertainment.

Additionally, interest has also been reported in bringing actress Helen Hunt back to the sequel, with a story centered around the daughter she had with Bill Paxton’s character.

Mark L. Smith (“The Revenant”) is writing the screenplay.

The list of possible directors for the project includes Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vaserhelyi (“Free Solo”), Dan Trachtenberg (“The Predator: The Hunt”) and Travis Knight (“Bumblebee”).

Frank Marshall (“Jurassic World: Dominion”) will produce the sequel.

The original movie revolved around Bill and Jo Harding (Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt), storm chasers who must band together to create an early warning system when they get in the way of extremely violent tornadoes.

A hit in theaters, the film became the second highest-grossing film of 1996, grossing nearly $500 million on a $92 million budget. Despite its financial success, it received mixed reviews from critics.
