TTArtisan has announced a new 27mm f/2.8 XF lens that is the first autofocus lens for the Fujifilm X-mount from the Chinese brand.
According to the initial report shared by DPReview, the new all-metal body lens (which is a 41mm equivalent on a full-frame system) is made of six elements in five groups that include two high-refractive index elements. The aperture available ranges from f/2.8 to f/16 and leverages a seven-blade diaphragm. The lens also has a minimum focus distance of 13.8 inches (35 centimeters) and uses a 39mm front filter thread.
What is interesting about the new lens is it has a built-in USB connection allowing for easy upgrading of firmware without the need of an additional dock to connect it, but according to the report, it hasn’t been made clear if the connection is a microUSB or USB-C type connection. The company also hasn’t stated what kind of autofocus system is being leveraged for the lens, but based on the size and design, the speculation is it is like using a stepping motor.
The lens is 2.4 inches in diameter (61mm) by 1.1 inches long (29mm) and weighs only 93 grams (3.3 ounces) which is a little bit lighter than the Fujifilm NP-W235 battery, making it incredibly easy to carry as a walkabout lens. The new autofocus lens reportedly offers a fairly pronounced bokeh with a noticeable cats-eye effect at the edges of the frame making it unique for street photography and landscape work.
The addition of this autofocus lens means the company has now joined the ranks of other third-party manufacturers offering autofocus systems like Sigma, Tamron, and Samyang/Rokinon for the Fujifilm APS-C X-mount system which is a welcome addition for Fujifilm shooters looking for a wider variety of lens choices and affordable options.
The TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8 AF lens for Fujifilm X-mount systems has already been listed on Amazon, yet official pricing has not been released at the time of publication. According to the report, a representative from TTArtisan says price details and orders should go live sometime tomorrow (October 28th, 2022) at which point the official product page from the company will also have it listed, along with full product details.
