There are several legends regarding the ability to consume certain foods in order to lose weight. The same, however, is also true otherwise: in fact, one suspects the tendency to gain weight that arises from the consumption of certain products. Social myths about food are the most common, but the reality is that we are often very wrong about these ideas; in this sense there are doubts about a wide variety of foods, but certainly one of the most popular, especially in recent years, is the tomato.

But how can tomatoes promote weight loss or how can they negatively affect our weight? Would it be appropriate to avoid consuming at a certain time of the day? In short, one of the most common doubts regarding this question is whether tomatoes make you fat or not. But when it comes to foods that make you fat and make you thin, you’re making a big mistake.

In and of themselves, food does not make you fat or lose weight, but what affects our body in this way is in fact the final daily balance of all calories consumed and burned. However, it is true that some products can tip the balance one way or another due to the fats, sugars and, ultimately, above all, the high caloric content they contain. The tomato’s calorie count gives us a very precise idea of its usefulness if you are on a diet: in fact, they provide only 18 kcal per 100 grams.

This figure makes it a low-calorie food, so tomatoes are definitely not fattening. This vegetable belongs to the fruit and vegetable scale of the food pyramid and most of its total weight is water (94.5%). Therefore, the tomato is especially recommended because it is able to provide an excellent source of fiber and vitamins, helping to meet the 5 servings of fruits and vegetables that we must consume daily.

All this is possible because it is a food very low in calories and fat. Therefore, considering the fact that no single food can make us fat except there are other factors, tomato sauce is no exception. However, however, depending on the nutritional values that the tomato sauce contains, it can be caloric or not, so in reality it depends exclusively on how it is prepared. As a general rule, it is a sauce that does not provide many calories because it is tomato-based.
