Acclaimed and controversial director Darren Aronofsky already has his next project in mind, “The Whale”, according to Deadline.
The adaptation of the acclaimed play of the same name by Samuel D. Hunter will be overseen by the A24 and will bring none other than beloved Brendan Fraser (‘Destiny Patrol‘, ‘The Mummy‘) in the lead role.
Hunter will be responsible for the script. The film will be Aronofsky’s first after the controversial ‘Mom! Released in 2017.
“Adapting my play to a script has been a labor of love for me,” Hunter commented in an official statement to Deadline. “This story is deeply personal and I am very grateful that it has a chance to reach a wider audience. I’ve been a fan of Darren ever since I watched ‘Requiem for a Dream’, when I was in college writing my first pieces, and I’m honored that he brings his unique talent and perspective to the film ”.

The original play, which debuted in 2012, won several awards and accolades, including a Drama Desk Award, a Lucille Lortel Award for Best Play and a GLAAD Award.
Aronofsky is known for his dense and critical films which are usually the subject of several controversies. His most recognized works are “Requiem for a Dream,” which brought Marlon Wayans, Jennifer Connelly, Jared Leto, and Ellen Burstyn into an addiction plot; “Black Swan,” starring Natalie Portman and earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Director; “Noah”, adaptation of the classic biblical legend with Russell Crowe; and “mother!” another Bible rereading that divided audiences and put Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem in the spotlight.
