During the San Diego Comic-Con panel, it was announced that the new spin-off series from The Walking Dead universe will star Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, who will reprise their roles as Rick Grimes and Michonne, respectively.
In an interview with SELF to promote “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Gurira revealed that filming for the series will begin in January for a 2023 premiere on AMC and AMC+.
Gurira described the spin-off as a “prestige mini-series”. “We owe you the conclusion of this Rick and Michonne story,” Gurira said.
To promote the spin-off, the first production poster was released.
The beautiful art features Michonne’s iconic machete and a card, which features the saying, “The New World Will Need Rick Grimes.”

The yet-to-be-titled series will feature “the epic love story of two characters changed by a different world. Separated by distance. By an unstoppable force. For the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into a another world, where the war is against the dead… and, ultimately, against the living as well.
Franchise chief content officer Scott M. Gimple will serve as showrunner.
