‘The Suicide Squad’: “Warner said I can kill anyone in the movie”, reveals James Gunn

One of the big debuts of 2021 is certainly the sequel “ The Suicide Squad ”. And filmmaker James Gunn has been adamant in revealing that Warner Bros. this gave him complete creative freedom to complete the project, even giving him the autonomy to reset the accountant and start a new team of anti-heroes.

And in a recent interview with Total Film, Gunn also said the studio allowed him to kill any character in the film. The novelty comes as a surprise, given WB’s past with the first “Suicide Squad” film.

According to the director of the previous version, David Ayer, the constant interference from the studio would have compromised both the development of the narrative, as well as the construction of characters such as Arlequina and Joker.

But when it comes to the next chapter, the situation is quite different, as Gunn pointed out:

“They said I could keep [todos os personagens] or end all. I could make a whole new team – which I envisioned – and they said, “You can kill anyone.” Warner was very involved [com a história] from the start – it was pretty stable from the start when I took over the project. They trusted me so much during the whole process, to the point of scaring me, because really all of this in the movie is me, 100% – there’s no one to blame if something goes wrong. , except myself!
