‘O Esquadrão Suicida’ had a weaker-than-expected opening at the North American box office. James Gunn’s film grossed just $ 12.2 million on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

With the value, the film is expected to end the weekend with around $ 27 million, a value well below the studio’s projections.

Warner expected the film to make at least $ 30 million when it premiered.

The film had an opening of 4,000 theaters, but was released simultaneously on HBO Max streaming.

In 2016, the previous film had a worldwide opening of $ 133.6 million and ended the runtime with $ 746.8 million.

Considering the pandemic and the low number of operating rooms around the planet, it is unlikely that James Gunn’s film could surpass David Ayer’s feature film mark.

“Welcome to Hell – also known as Bell Reve, the prison with the highest death rate in the United States. Where are the worst super villains kept and where are they desperate to escape – even joining the super secret and super dubious Task Force X. Today’s Suicide Mission? Assemble a group of crooks, including Bloodthirsty, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Rat Slayer 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Dart, and everyone’s favorite psychopath, Harlequin. So arm them by force and throw them (literally) on the distant island filled with enemies of Corto Maltese.
