The ordeal of a former Serie A champion: “I was sweating cold and I was afraid to fall asleep.” The statements shocked fans
Few people knew what a champion like Edinson Cavani had to go through. The Uruguayan striker, a major protagonist in Italy with the jerseys of Palermo and Naples, had to resort to a psychologist.

He was one of the great protagonists of Serie A ten years ago. Edinson Cavani coached Napoli de Mazzarri to Champions League qualification with goals, coming close to sensational elimination from Chelsea (later champions) in the round of 16. With Hamsik and Lavezzi, he formed “The Three Tenors” and it was an absolute pleasure to see him play in San Paolo (today Diego Armando Maradona). Then PSG money snatched him out of the blue jersey and allowed him to win a lot in France and score a slew of goals. The stats remained good, albeit lower, even at Manchester United. Now, after his contract with the Red Evils expired, he has taken on the Valencia project, to better prepare for the World Cup. He finds a good feeling with Gattuso, for what must be the recovery season.

In a recent interview with Relevo, “El Matador” confessed to having also had recourse to a psychologist to improve his mental state.
“Given the importance of the mental and emotional aspect in football, it is striking that there is still a prejudice against going to the psychologist. The first time I went there was after the remuntada suffered against Barcelona. It marked me a lot, in 5 minutes everything changed and it was a blow”.
Right after this match, the Uruguayan experienced difficult times: “I couldn’t control myself. Even if we only talk about football, I felt anxious, cold sweats and dizzy. I was afraid to fall asleep and wondered if there was a problem in my head. I went to see the PSG doctor and he told me that it happened to a lot of people, in all sectors. I realized that I was not a superhero”.
These words could also be of great help to other young people, in the world of football and beyond, who have been or are going through a situation similar to yours.
