Walt Disney announced today (05) that the live-action remake of “ The Little Mermaid ” has added another member to its cast: Noma Dumezweni.
Known for her work on “Normal People” and the recent crime series “The Undoing”, Dumezweni will bring to life an undisclosed role, which was created especially for the new version. She worked with Casa Mouse on “The Return of Mary Poppins”.
The cast is also formed by Halle Bailey, who will be the protagonist Ariel; Daveed Diggs, who will bring Sebastião to life. Melissa McCarthy rounds out the cast as the villainous Ursula, Awkwafina (“ Jumanji: Next Stage ”) as the hilarious gull of wisdom, Jacob Tremblay (“ The Predator ”) as the iconic fish Flounder and Jonah Hauer-King (“ On the way home ”)) as Prince Eric.
Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“Mother!”) Will be King Triton. Zendaya, Keke Palmer and Chloe Bailey are expected to live out Ariel’s sisters, while Gugu Mbatha-Raw is expected to play Queen Athena.
Directed by Rob Marshall, the work includes songs from the original animated film and new songs by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
