According to Variety, the teaser for the live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” has already reached 104 million views worldwide in less than a week.

The preview for the feature film starring Halle Bailey surpassed the mark of teasers of other standout Disney title remakes, such as “Beauty and the Beast” (94 million views), “Aladdin” (74 million), “Cruella (68 million) and ‘Maleficent’ (62 million).

The figures were obtained through analysis of YouTube, Twitter, Tik Tok, Instagram and even Snapchat.

However, the record could be even higher as the mark does not include views from the UK, Ireland and Australia due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

On social media, several Hollywood fans and artists were moved by Bailey’s beautiful voice singing “Part of Your World”, the song that was the theme of the animation.

Yet Bailey has suffered several racist attacks because of her casting in the role, as she is black.

In fact, the trailer reached over a million DISLIKES, despite only having 324,000 likes.

However, Bailey is not at all worried about the enemies and all she wants is to put on the best performance possible.

In an interview with Comic Book, she said how important the choice was to her.

“Well, this movie has meant a lot to me since I was a little girl. When I was cast, I thought, ‘I can only do my best and be proud. If I make the little girl happy that’s in me, so I know I did a good job and I know I’m doing my best. I gave it my all and I hope people can get something out of it.

It’s worth mentioning that some netizens even tried to justify damaging comments by saying Bailey’s casting misrepresents the original House Mouse character, while others said the portrayal kills the classics.

I don’t see anything wrong with people being embarrassed for not being faithful to the original, myself I don’t care about not being faithful, for me the acting, the dialogues and the way the storyline is executed are worth much more, but there are those who care, yeah the person is right, if a black character changed +

I don’t see it as racism, I see it as what I said before:
The “Disney Classics” are not “classics” for nothing.
You can’t change the features of a classic and expect everyone to love it. ++

Representativeness puts an end to the work

people don’t understand that it’s not racism it’s a bad characterization of a character, there’s no redheaded black people (natural), Ariel will always be white and redheaded, there’s Tiana who is black , would you be ok if they put a blank character?

Remember that the release of the film is scheduled for May 26, 2023.

The live-action adaptation of the classic story will make some changes to the main characters’ backstory, including the iconic villain Ursula (Melissa McCarthy).

The information indicates that the sea witch will be the aunt of Ariel (Bailey), something that had already been considered for the animated version of Disney. Incidentally, in the tale signed by Hans Christian Andersen, the witch has no name and does not have much importance in the story, having only appeared as the main antagonistic force in 1989.

The cast also includes Daveed Diggs, who will play Sebastian, Melissa McCarthy as the evil Ursula, Awkwafina (“Jumanji: The Next Phase”) as the hilarious Scuttle Seagull, Jacob Tremblay (“The Predator”) in the role of the iconic Flounder fish. Jonah Hauer-King (“On the Way Home”) as Prince Eric.

Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem (“Mother!”) will play King Triton. Zendaya, Keke Palmer and Chloe Bailey are slated to play Ariel’s sisters, while Gugu Mbatha-Raw is set to play Queen Athena. Jessica Alexander and Noma Dumezweni complete the cast, but no roles have yet been revealed.

Directed by Rob Marshall, the work features music from the original animated film and new music by Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
