And finally, the live-action prequel to “The Lion King” got its official title, as well as a release date, this Friday (09) at Disney D23.
The feature film, which will be directed by acclaimed ‘Moonlight: Under the Moonlight’ director Barry Jenkins, will be called ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’, and will hit theaters in 2024.

Jenkins previously commented on the project: “Helping my sister raise two boys in the 90s, I grew up with these characters,” Jenkins said in a statement. “Having the opportunity to work with Disney to develop this wonderful story of friendship, love and legacy as I continue my work chronicling the lives and souls of people in the African Diaspora is a dream come true. “
The script is ready and it was written by Jeff Nathanson, who was also responsible for the script of the original.
