‘House of the Dragon’ broke another record by reaching 9.3 million viewers during its last episode in the United States, according to official information from HBO.
It’s simply the highest number for an HBO original production finale since the eighth season of “Game of Thrones.”
“We are thrilled to see House of the Dragon become a hit with Game of Thrones fans around the world, as well as new viewers experiencing this rich world of Westeros for the first time. Congratulations to George, Ryan, Miguel and the whole team for this incredible first season,” said Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO.
‘House of the Dragon’ maintained an average of 29 million viewers per episode. For comparison, the sixth season of the main series stood at 32.8 million at the time of airing.

The story is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and follows Daenerys’ ancestors as House Targaryen crumbles. The plot is based on the novel “Fire & Blood” by George RR Martin, who also joins as a creator alongside Ryan J. Condal.
The cast includes Olivia Cooke, who will play Alicent Hightower, the beautiful daughter of the Hand of the King; Emma D’Arcy will play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Viserys’ eldest daughter; Matt Smith will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, the King’s younger brother; Paddy Considine will be King Viserys; Fabien Frankel will play Ser Criston Cole, member of King Viserys I Targaryen’s guard; Rhys Ifans will play Otto Hightower, Hand of the King; Steve Toussaint will play Lord Corlys Velaryon, the Sea Serpent; Eve Best will play Princess Rhaenys Velaryon; Sonoya Mizuno will play Mysaria, one of Prince Daemon Targaryen’s most trusted (and unlikely) allies, heir to the throne; and Graham McTavish in an undisclosed role; and Milly Alcock and Emily Carey will play young Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower respectively.
