The sequel “Fast and Furious 9” is already showing in Brazilian theaters and has surprised international screenings, drawing fans to the big screen.
The debut took place first in the international market (still in May), becoming the largest since the start of the pandemic – earning $ 162.4 million in just eight markets.
This made expectations for the US release equally bold, with projections pointing to a box office of $ 67 million on its opening weekend – surpassing the grand opening of “A Quiet Place:” Part II ”. However, ‘Fast 9’ went one step further, earning $ 70 million during the reporting period.
And in an interview with Variety magazine, Vin Diesel celebrated the big screen revival, noting that “cinema is back”:
“I think what sounds best is just the idea of people coming back to the movie experience. It’s good to say: “The cinema is back! You can’t blame another studio for wanting to show a movie, but those like Universal are bold enough to say, “Hey, let’s support theatrical release” and I take my hat off to them. “
It should be remembered that the film also dominated the Brazilian box office and broke the record for the biggest opening during the pandemic.
The film drew 679,000 viewers and grossed 12.5 million reais at the Brazilian box office in its debut weekend in Brazil, according to Comscore.
The record to date was ‘Invocation of Evil 3’, which raised R $ 8 million in its first weekend in Brazil.
