One of the most popular trends for Fall/Winter 2022, as already demonstrated on the catwalks and noticed on international red carpets, is the use of velvet. The most recent showing comes from the 2022 Rome Film Festival, starring Kasia Smutniak and Pierfrancesco Favino.
From time to time they come back and, in view of autumn/winter 2022, it seems to be the time of velvet dresses again. A trend anticipated on the catwalks during Fashion Weeks a few months ago and even more highlighted by celebrities on the red carpets. From the Oscars to the Cannes Film Festival and our own Venice Film Festival, celebrities have no problem pointing out the obvious. And also on the occasion of the Rome Film Fest, all the interest in velvet shines through from the red carpet.

The coldest season of the year is approaching, and to combat it, you need to show off the trendiest clothes in your wardrobe. According to fashion, it is therefore appropriate to refresh these strictly velvet garments, which this year will be the protagonists of your looks. Let’s see some influences on how to style it from the most recent red carpets.
Velvet sets the trend again
Velvet is usually associated with an important event: whether it’s an exclusive evening, a red carpet or a high profile dinner, choosing a velvet look can be a great solution, especially if you know it’s back in trend. Already in autumn you can make room for this delightfully glamorous fabric, even more so if combined with the seasonal palette. As we’ve already admired on various red carpets, celebrities have also followed the trend by opting for long velvet dresses, some more opaque than others. A new example comes from the 2022 Rome Film Festival. On the opening red carpet, Kasia Smutniak showed off a rigorously velvet all-black shirt dress, with long sleeves and pointed straps, accompanied by a white flower at the height of collar. The dress, chosen for the premiere of Il Colibrì, is by Giorgio Armani.

Moving more in an international context, at the London Film Festival, Carey Mulligan also chose a Giorgio Armani dress in velvet, total black and bustier, whose sweetheart bodice is enlivened by a tongue of shocking pink satin. And the dress that Rocío Muñoz Morales wore during the closing red carpet of the Venice Film Festival 2022 is also very similar.

And again from the film festival in the lagoon comes another total velvet costume, proposed by Cate Blanchett: the actress wore a black velvet jumpsuit by Schiaparelli enriched with a floral neckline. And the skin-tight blue velvet sheath dress worn by Kylie Jenner at Paris Fashion Week is from the same French house. As well as the sheath dress proposed by Vanessa Kirby at the London Film Festival, total black and accompanied by Cartier jewelry.
