According to THR, Chloe Zhao (from the upcoming “The Eternals”) will write and direct a new version of “Dracula,” which is in development by Universal Pictures.
The new version is described as a futuristic science fiction western.
“I’ve always been fascinated by vampires and the concept they represent. I am very happy to be working with the Universal team to reinvent such a beloved character, ”said Zhao.
The plot will address social criticism, something Zhao had already stepped up in his previous works.
“Chloe’s unique vision shines a light on stories of the forgotten and the misunderstood,” studio president Peter Cramer said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be working with her as she reinvents one of the most iconic characters ever created.”
New information should be released soon.
Don’t forget that Karyn Kusama (“The Invitation”) is also developing his own version of Dracula for Universal Pictures.
