The Crown 5 worse than expected
The fifth season of The Crown TV series could turn out to be even more cruel than expected. As previously reported, the Netflix-produced season will feature re-enactments of British royalty’s most private conversations, complete with obscene details, as well as fictionalized conversations between Prince William and his mother, as well as the infamous interview with Princess Diana with Martin Bashir.
Already the choice to include Lady Diana’s famous interview has drawn a lot of criticism in the UK. Last year, in fact, Prince William had publicly urged not to broadcast the images of this interview obtained by deception and so painful for the royal family.
Netflix, however, decided to rebuild it for the small screen anyway and it will be one of the most anticipated scenes of the season. But it looks like the show’s producers didn’t stop there. Sources well informed on the facts are indeed ready to swear that the scenes will be much worse than what has been announced and feared so far.
The Crown will border on defamatory according to experts
The portrayal of senior royals, including that of Charles, then Prince of Wales, is said to be very “poor” in the next season of The Crown. To reveal this with absolute certainty, the Daily Mail reported that “the dramatic license used to recreate relatively recent events in their lives is so great that some scenes border on defamation”.
Experts also believe that even the choice to air the new season almost exactly two months after Queen Elizabeth’s death makes it all that much worse. As Carlo and Camilla work hard to achieve higher approval ratings, The Crown might undo the big effort. Many scenes indeed show their extra-marital relationship at the time when Charles was still married to Princess Diana.
But even more will be discussed are the dialogues in which the then Prince of Wales reflects on his own status in the royal family. In one scene, indeed, he says, “And how would you describe being Prince of Wales? It is certainly not a job, much less a vocation. What are? They are just a useless ornament stuck in a waiting room gathering dust. The dialogues are not lacking either between Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip who will say they are disappointed by the behavior of Charles. And, speaking of Prince Philip, in the center of the plot an explicit allusion to the alleged relationship with his friend Penny Knatchbull is already expected.
