‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ movie canceled by HBO Max

Bad news for “The Amazing World of Gumball” fans.

According to a new report from HBO Max, Warner Media Kids & Family has decided to cancel the feature film which would be based on the acclaimed animation (via ComicBook.com).

With little information released, the reason for the cancellation is unknown, but it’s possible this and other projects recently dropped by the producer could be salvaged by other companies.

The feature film was previously announced under the working title ‘The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie‘, which would both serve as a conclusion to the original series and pave the way for a new series, titled ‘The Amazing World of Gumball : The Amazing World of Gumball: The Series’.

The film would bring in Ben Bocquelet as executive producer and director, who would also write the screenplay alongside Shane Mack. Sam Register, Vanessa Brookman and Sarah Fell would produce.

“Honoring his self-referential and metacomic roots that have won over fans around the world, the film begins when Gumball’s biggest fan finds the lost episode of the series and accidentally opens a portal connecting his world to the animated world. Meeting his heroes , he decides to join forces with Gumball, Darwin, Anais, Ricardo and Nicole to save them from an infamous force that is launching itself on the town of Elmore.
