According to the Small Screen website, Burton wants Johnny Depp to play Gomez. The filmmaker sees the star as “one of the few who can do the character justice”, Mortícia’s husband.
As many already know, Burton is a great collaborator of Depp, who starred in several productions of the filmmaker, such as the classic “Edward Scissorhands” (1990).
But if he expresses his confidence in the star’s talents, it looks like Netflix’s reps have to be convinced about the lineup.
The screenplay was written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, best known for creating and producing the hit series “Smallville”.

For those who don’t know, the Addams Family was created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938, as tapes for The New Yorker magazine. The characters have spawned live and animated series, books, video games, and even a musical, which premiered in Brazil in 2012, starring Daniel Boaventura and Marisa Orth as pair Gomez and Morticia Addams.
In the cinema, the creation gave birth to “The Addams Family”, a hit in 1991, and 2 years later, “The Addams II Family”, both directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia played the Addams couple. Christopher Lloyd was Uncle Fester and Christina Ricci lived on Wednesday Addams (Wandinha).
The third film, “The Return of the Addams Family,” was released direct on video in 1998.
