Netflix has announced the start of production of Suburræterna, a spin-off of the famous Suburra, which has just started filming. The Netflix show expands the narrative universe of the parent series, with the new original story produced by Cattleya – part of ITV Studios – only coming to Netflix in 2023.

Ending two years ago, Suburra closed with the third season. A chapter that, although it was accepted as a worthy conclusion, also aroused the discontent of users due to the dramatic departure of Aureliano (Alessandro Borghi). Now, however, the narrative universe returns to expand through the creation of a spin-off, which will review the famous protagonists, or Suburræterna. In the cast we will find: Giacomo Ferrara in the role of Spadino and Filippo Nigro in that of Amedeo Cinaglia. At the same time, Carlotta Antonelli and Federica Sabatini return to play the role of Angelica and Nadia respectively.

Suburræterna is written by Ezio Abbate and Fabrizio Bettelli, who also act as editors, Camilla Buizza, Marco Sani, Andrea Nobile and Giulia Forgione. Ciro D’Emilio directs the first four episodes, while Alessandro Tonda directs the last four. The series is taken from the literary work Suburra written by Giancarlo De Cataldo and Carlo Bonini – who also take care of the editing of the story – published by Einaudi.

Netflix also unveiled the plot of Suburræterna: the story takes place in Rome, in 2011. The government is in danger of falling, the Vatican is in crisis and the city squares are literally set on fire. In the middle world, Cinaglia (Filippo Nigro) has tried to collect the samurai legacy and, together with Badali (Emmanuele Aita), continues to manage the city’s criminal affairs, with the help of Adelaide (Paola Sotgiu) and Angelica (Carlotta Antonelli), who remained in charge of the Anacleti, and Nadia (Federica Sabatini), who helps them manage the places at Ostia.

But there are those who no longer accept this system. New protagonists will come into play, upsetting the balance of Rome: thus begins a revolution that, from the Church to the Campidoglio and the beaches of Ostia, quickly spreads to erase everything that represents the past. Spadino (Giacomo Ferrara) will therefore be forced to return home, to prevent his family from being endangered along with everything else, and to seek new allies, even where he never thought of finding them… But war is war and in Palio is control of Rome.
