Walt Disney Studios has announced that ‘Star Wars: Andor’, a spinoff series of the vaunted ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, has been officially confirmed for the second half of 2022.

Still no official day revealed, the production will star Diego Luna, who returns as Cassian Andor.

Previously, Luna had told Deadline that filming for the attraction had already been completed and that the work would have “familiar faces” from the original saga.

“Honestly, it is a blessing to be able to do this job given the circumstances we are currently facing. I have been fortunate enough to work with a team and couldn’t be more proud of it. It’s a difficult time for the recordings and we have been very lucky. We have finished filming and are ready for the audience to see what we have done.

He adds: “You will certainly see familiar faces returning. Although I can’t reveal much, I can say that this experience was a transformation for me. This is something I really wanted to do and thought it wouldn’t be possible. I am very happy.”

The episodes are directed by Ben Caron, Susanna White, and Toby Haynes, who is also the attraction’s showrunner.

The plot will follow the adventures of Cassian Andor during the early formative years of the Rebellion, before the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. The heart-stopping thriller will explore stories full of espionage and daring quests to restore hope to the galaxy beset by a relentless empire.

In addition to protagonist Diego Luna, the cast includes Genevieve O’Reilly, Adria Arjona (“Squad 6”), Denise Gough (“Guerrilla”), Stellan Skarsgård (“Chernobyl”) and Kyle Soller (“The Titan”). Ewan McGregor could also reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, while Andy Serkis returns as Snoke.

O’Reilly will reprise her role as chief member of the Rebel Alliance Mon Mothma, a character she first played in ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’ (2005) and later in ‘Rogue One’ (2016).

So far, no details have been revealed on the characters of Gough, Arjona, Skarsgård and Soller.
