In September, Paramount pulled “Star Trek 4” from its release schedule after director Matt Shakman dropped the project to work on Marvel Studios’ “Fantastic Four” reboot.

Paramount is now looking for a replacement director after declaring the film a priority.

And, while producer JJ Abrams announced that he wanted to bring back the cast of the trilogy started in 2009, Zoe Saldaña commented on the future of the sequel.

In an interview with Deadline, Lt. Nyota Uhura’s interpreter explained the situation:

“We were in contact with JJ and were trying to see if we could start work last fall, I don’t think it’s possible. But I think it was just timeline ideas because at the time we weren’t able to get a whole cast and crew together, but I think that has something to do with the project as well . I only know that. We’re all on the same page, what we want the most right now is to come back [a trabalhar nessa franquia].”

Previously slated for December 2023, “Star Trek 4” remains without a premiere date.

Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk, revealed to Variety that he wasn’t even aware the project had been announced.

“I think everyone was like, ‘Have you heard of that?’ [Risos]. We’re usually the last to know, but I know we’re all excited. Whenever they want to send us a script, we are ready to do so.

When asked if he could reveal any details about the sequel, Pine said:

“We still haven’t received a script. So I know absolutely nothing about the new movie, but what matters now is that [a produção] has passed.”

Although the script is still in the works, the star was reportedly the first to sign the return contract and revealed he only did so because he loves the franchise with all his heart.

“I’m very excited. I love the story. I love ‘Star Trek’. I love these guys who have been with me since the first movie. That’s why I signed him.

The screenplay originally written by Noah Howley (“Legion”) is being reworked by Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess is a Loser”) and Geneva Robertson (“Captain Marvel,” “Tomb Raider: Inception”) .

Still untitled, there’s no plot information for the new film, but updates are expected to be released once production resumes.

Recalling that the last film in the franchise was ‘Star Trek: Without Borders’, released in 2016

Directed by Justin Lin (“Fast & Furious 9”), the film earned just $343.4 million worldwide, on a budget of $185 million.

Despite this, the sequel was very well received by critics, earning an 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
