In an interview with Hello Sidney, Tyler Gillett, one of the directors behind the awaited fifth chapter of the ‘Scream’ saga, commented a bit on the narrative for the upcoming film and promised fans plenty of references (Eggs of Easter) to previous entries in the franchise.
“Enjoy the game [do filme] it came from the script, where the entry point is accessible to everyone, ”he said. “It is not a film that you have to have seen others to understand. […] But your experience will be extremely fun the more you learn about the first four. We will have many Easter eggs. It wouldn’t be a ‘Scream’ movie if it wasn’t self-referential and talked about, you know, how the genre works in the pop culture sense.
The long-awaited new sequel to the “Scream” franchise will be released on January 13, 2022.
The next chapter features the return of veterans Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Marley Shelton, and introduces newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mikey Madison and Jack Quaid.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gilett, from the hit “Bloody Wedding”, are leading the project. Kevin Williamson will be the producer.
The first film in the franchise opened in 1996 and became an instant revolutionary classic that mixed elements of slasher horror with cinematic metalanguage. Directed by Wes Craven and scripted by Williamson, the plot focused on a masked serial killer known as Ghostface, who used slogans and haunting knowledge of genre productions to pursue his victims.
Together, the four iterations have grossed over $ 608 million at the global box office.
