A university with 16 degree courses related to medicine and health professions. This is the structure inaugurated today in Scampia. From a place of death and violence to a place of culture. The district on the northern outskirts of Naples, hitherto defrayed by the infamous Vele, thus takes a new step forward to free itself from the Italian label “Gomorra”. The city authorities were present at the inauguration of the structure, together with the mayor Gaetano Manfredi and the president of the Region Vincenzo De Luca. Alongside the outgoing Minister of University and Research, Maria Cristina Messa.
The inauguration took place in the 520-seat Aula Magna. Six floors, including an underground one, half dedicated to teaching and half to research activities. The rector of Federico II, Matteo Lorito, specifies in fact that the new headquarters will be a place of research and innovation from the point of view of the health professions. Classes started today for the more than 600 students enrolled in the various courses. An important step for the whole district, which will thus see students coming to its streets from all over Naples.
Scampia inaugurates the University. The Sails Committee: “Important objective, but not sufficient”
Shortly before the inauguration, a procession of the Committee of Sails and the Movement of November 7 took place in the streets of the district. Until you reach the University entrance. No particular moment of tension, but only the will to underline the importance that the popular committees played in the realization of this objective. Indeed, the University of Scampia is part of the larger project “Restart Scampia”. The plan that provides for the demolition of the sails, the construction of new social housing and – indeed – the new headquarters of Federico II. The members of the committee then underlined that the inauguration is indeed an important moment for the district but not a definitive point of arrival. The call is still missing the demolition of two other sails and the construction of new social housing.
