Ruth Negga to be singer and secret agent Josephine Baker in new ABC miniseries

According to Deadline, Ruth Negga will bring French actress, singer and resistance fighter Joséphine Baker to life in “Josephine”, a miniseries supervised by ABC Signature.

Dee Harris-Lawrence signs the script of the work, while Millicent Shelton enters as director. LeBron James and Maverick Carter will be the producers.

The story will revolve around Baker’s experience as an “international superstar and decorated WWII spy”, describing the celebrity as a “force of nature.”

Baker’s career began at the age of fifteen, when he first performed on stage. She would become the first black woman to star in a feature film of “Siren of the Tropics”, released in 1927. At the age of 19, she moved to France and renounced American citizenship to become a young European after marrying industrialist Jean Lion in 1937. During World War II, he joined the French Resistance. During the 1950s and 1960s, she struggled against segregation and racism in the United States and, after beginning to return to the stage, died of a cerebral hemorrhage on April 12, 1975, buried with military honors.

Negga is well known for her television work, primarily for the “Preacher” and “Agents of SHIELD” series. In film, he won Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for his performance in “Loving.” His other credits include “World War Z”, “Warcraft” and “Ad Astra – Towards the Stars”.
