Rome, clashes between students and police at La Sapienza University

High tension and clashes between students and police at the Faculty of Political Science of La Sapienza in Rome. A conference on “good capitalism” was planned at the university, with participants Daniele Capezzone and Fabio Roscani. The latter is a member of the Brothers of Italy and president of the National Youth. Students and collectives tried to enter the faculty, but found the barrier of the mobile department of the state police.

Officers used shields and batons to prevent students from entering the lecture hall. Participants in the demonstration held a banner in their hands that read “Fascists out of La Sapienza. Anti-fascism is anti-capitalism. During the clashes, a student was injured in the head. Two of them were arrested and identified by the police. The protest, meanwhile, continued throughout the morning after students marched to the Faculty of Political Science.

The tension is still palpable. The police continue to monitor the entrance to the university, while the students chant choirs and slogans against Fratelli d’Italia and Giorgia Meloni. Among the reasons for the dispute, the fact of having changed the denomination of the ministries (introducing categories such as Made in Italy, Food Sovereignty and Merit) and the position that, according to the students, Fratelli d’Italia has on women’s rights .
