In the Lazio regional elections next year, Alessio D’Amato, the outgoing health adviser, will be the Democratic Party’s candidate to succeed Zingaretti. In 2023, the regional will also take place in Lombardy, where the situation of the main opposition party remains undefined for the moment. In the center-right and third pole regions, they start with an advantage.
The leadership of the Democratic Party of Lazio met on November 15, deliberating with one voice against the report of secretary Bruno Astorre, as well as the proposal of Alessio D’Amato as presidential candidate in view of the regional elections of the ‘next year. “There is no shadow of Calenda, it is a unitary candidacy that the PD is making available today to the entire coalition,” said D’Amato on leaving the regional leadership of dem al Nazareno.

The candidate for the regionals explained that he wanted “the broadest possible coalition which will decide tomorrow on both the programmatic aspects and the modalities. We do not sulk even if there will be primaries, it is our genesis, if it serves to help widen the perimeter of the coalition. A coalition that we want to have a strong focus on environmental and climate issues, no to nuclear power and labor issues. These – he explained – must be the basic elements that will characterize the basic indication that there was.
Regional in Lazio
As for the differences with Azione and Italia Viva, for D’Amato the electoral campaign for the next regional elections is carried out “with the experience that we have. We have governed the Lazio region for 5 years with excellent results, offering important solutions for our citizens and I think this must be valued. Let’s make this experience available to the whole coalition and I am convinced that we can win in Lazio. It would be a great signal for our people and for the centre-left, a redemption and a revenge even in relation to what the political elections have been”.

Chaos in Lombardy
Black smoke on the other hand in Lombardy, on the name of the center left candidate for the presidency, in view of the regional elections of 2023. If in Lazio the leadership dem was almost unanimous on the name of D’Amato, in Milan it is thick fog. Firstly because the sirens of the Third Pole are sounding, calling on the moderates on the left to converge on their candidate: the historic former minister Berlusconi Letizia Moratti.
Thus, the Democratic Party, contrary to what happened in Lazio, drew up a list of candidates to be submitted to the allies for the regional elections. It’s +Europe, the Greens, the Italian Left and European Civics. The Five Star Movement remains in the background. The dems are divided: there are those who want the pentastellati and those who don’t. Among the Democrats eligible to run for the presidency of the Region are Pierfrancesco Maran, councilor of the Chamber at the Sala junta in Milan, and MEP Pierfrancesco Majorino. But also Fabio Pizzul, outgoing leader of the PD group, who in recent days had opened up to the idea of supporting Letizia Moratti. Then come Antonio Misiani, economist and senator elected in Milan, Irene Tinagli, MEP, and Simona Malpezzi, group leader in the Senate.
