According to Deadline, Sofia Boutella (“The Mummy”) has been cast for the lead role in “Rebel Moon”, the next science fiction from director Zack Snyder (“Army of the Dead – Las Vegas Invasion”).

As of now, there are still no details on the role, but updates are expected to be released soon.

For those who don’t know her, Boutella played the villainous Gazelle in “Kingsman: Secret Service”, and was also Princess Ahmanet in the remake of “The Mummy”, starring Tom Cruise in 2017.

She also had a small role in ‘Atomic’, bringing to life Delphine, the protagonist’s lover played by Charlize Theron.

Previously, Snyder spoke to the Comic Book and said he would return to work with Billy Crudup on the feature film.

For those who don’t know, Crudup brought Dr. Manhattan to life in ‘Watchmen’ and played Barry Allen’s father Henry in ‘Justice League’.

Commenting on the cast for the new project, Snyder said:

“I love my people. I always make these guys work with me. I love my acting family, and if they’re not busy or something, it’s always an honor to have the opportunity to work with them again.

He continued:

“For example, Billy Crudup is one of those cases. It’s just that I’ve been so lucky and worked with such amazing people and consider so many of my friends that it would be great to work with them whenever I can.

Directed and co-written by Snyder in partnership with Shay Hatten (‘Army of the Dead’) and Kurt Johnstad (‘300’), ‘Rebel Moon’ begins when a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruler called Balisarius. The desperate people send a young man with a mysterious past to seek warriors from neighboring planets to help them position themselves.

“It’s me growing up as a fan of Star Wars fan Akira Kurosawa. It’s my love of sci-fi and it will be a giant adventure. My hope is that this too becomes a huge franchise and a universe that can be built. I have spent the last two or three years building this universe. Every corner has to be painted. I have made plans, constantly designing and cultivating their fertile soil for this world to come true. Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter.

Still no premiere preview, the feature should only be shot next year.
