Rai paying in the bill, beware of the scam: it can happen to you too!
You could be the victim of a gross error in the fulfillment of the Rai Fee, in the electricity and gas bills during the year
When it comes to RAI fees, Italian citizens are very often disappointed and scared. The taxation of public television remains one of the most hated taxes of all time, because it is not justified and also quite expensive.
Since 2016, the Rai Fee has been paid into electricity and gas bills. A gimmick from the Renzi government, which in fact lowered the annual amount (from 113 to 90 euros), but at the same time increased the bills in order to avoid tax evasion of the fee.
But there is an important caveat for all consumers. It is urgent to pay attention to the actual annual amount of the Rai fee. Indeed, there is no shortage of oversights on the part of those who provide it, both in terms of the general cost and for those who should be exempt from payment.
Pay attention to the amount of the Rai Fee: you could overpay
The serious risk, which has already happened to several people, is that the Revenue Agency and the electricity and gas suppliers fill in a higher bill than expected, precisely because of the incorrect increase in the RAI charge.
As mentioned, the television license costs 90 euros per year for all citizens, divided between the different energy users. Our advice is to count precisely from time to time how much the invoice amount for Rai is. It is not excluded that there may be errors and that you are forced to overpay. 
In this case, a complaint must be filed with the Revenue Agency, demonstrating by the invoices that you have paid more than expected and therefore requesting an automatic refund. Not only that: sometimes errors also affect citizens who deserve an exemption from the RAI fee and who have already made a specific request.
For example, people with severe disabilities and their caregivers, or consumers over 75 whose annual income does not exceed eight thousand euros. If the amount of the costs is charged to the invoice, they will also have to ask the Agency for a rectification and have the money duly requested returned to the utilities.
