Producer Kevin Williamson has confirmed that the new film in the “Panic” franchise (2022) will take a very different direction from the previous ones.
When asked about the direction of the next film, Williamson declined to reveal the new rules for horror films.
However, he insisted that the new film will support itself, without ignoring the main elements that have animated the franchise.
“What I like about the new ‘Panic’ is that it takes a whole new approach and is able to support itself. It’s a new movie, but it also has a nostalgic factor that takes us back to the beginning of the franchise that permeates. It’s the perfect mix! “
He also praised the work of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet (“Bloody Wedding”).
“I’m thrilled with the directors and very nervous because no one gets to Wes Craven. I was really hesitant to get into this project… But, man, how glad I did, because I think it’ll make Wes proud.
Released in 2011, the 4th film recorded the franchise’s worst financial performance, raising just US $ 97 million worldwide, on a budget of US $ 42 million.

A number well below “ Panic 3, ” which had the same budget and raised $ 161 million worldwide, even though it was considered the worst movie, with a meager approval rating of 39% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The first film in the franchise debuted in 1996 and became an instant, groundbreaking classic that mixed elements of slasher terror with cinematic metalanguage. Directed by Wes Craven and scripted by Kevin Williamson, the plot focused on a masked serial killer known as Ghostface, who used slogans and creepy knowledge of genre productions to pursue his victims.
Together, the four iterations have raised more than $ 608 million at the global box office.
Paramount Pictures is launching “Panic” in Brazil on January 13, 2022, the day before the North American debut.
