The 12th Academy Awards Gala, originally scheduled for January 15, 2022, has been postponed due to the new omicron variant of the coronavirus. The information was revealed by the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last Wednesday (23).
The decision follows as a preventive measure, in order to prevent new infections from occurring during the event. And through an official statement, the Academy reviewed the decision, also indicating that a new date would be announced.
“We made the difficult decision to change our plans to celebrate the Board of Governors face-to-face awards gala on January 15th. Given the uncertainties surrounding the variants [do coronavírus] and the impact they could have on our community, we believe this was the best and safest decision for our guests and award recipients. Rescheduling plans will come at a later date as we continue to prioritize the health and well-being of everyone involved. “
In this edition of the Governors Awards, the night’s winners include actors Samuel L. Jackson, Danny Glover, Liv Ullmann, and director Elaine May.
The award generally celebrates the trajectory of members of the film industry and precedes the main award.
Recall that the Oscar 2022 follows with its date of March 27.
