The highly anticipated 2021 Oscars ceremony took place yesterday (25) at the Dolby Theater and Union Station in Los Angeles, bringing some big surprises.
The 93rd edition of the film industry’s most prestigious event recognized Chloé Zhao as best director for her work on “Nomadland”, which also won her the statuette for best film.
Feature film star Frances McDormand also won Best Actress for the third time. Previously, she had received the statuette for her performance in ‘Fargo’ (1997) and ‘Three Ads for a Crime’ (2018).
Other renowned names in the industry were also honored, such as Anthony Hopkins, who came out as Best Actor for his performance on “My Father”.
Daniel Kaluuya surprised by winning the Best Supporting Actor statuette for “ Judas and the ‘Black Messiah,’ ‘as he competed against the much-loved Sacha Baron Cohen (“ The 7 Chicago’ ‘ ) and Paul Raci (“ The Sound of Silence ”).
Charismatic Yuh-Jung Youn received the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Minari”.
Among the animations, “Soul” was already a big favorite for the award for best animation and won, in addition to beating the competition in the category of best soundtrack.
