Giampiero Ventrone, historic coach of Juventus, died at the age of 62. Choking him in the night was a fulminant disease discovered a few weeks ago. From November 2021, he became Tottenham’s chief preparation officer, joining Antonio Conte’s staff. The current Spurs manager was one of his players during his Juventus days, with Marcello Lippi on the bench. Together with the Tuscan coach, they built the winning Juve of the 90s, capable of winning several league titles and the 1996 European Cup. Then two more finals lost in the following two years (1997 with Borussia Dortmund and 1998 against Real Madrid). After spending time in Turin, he had taken on various other projects. First in Ajaccio, with Fabrizio Ravanelli, then in Catania and China, under the orders of Fabio Cannavaro in Guanzhou.

Since 1994, the year of the landing in football that counts, Ventrone had shown revolutionary working methods, inspired by extreme fitness and military training. Even the British newspaper “Sun” called his endurance training “brutal running sessions”. The tabloid had documented some Tottenham sessions during the Asian tour last summer. The work was so intense that it forced some players to stop to give belly, especially Harry Kane. On the other hand, this was nothing new, given that over time he was nicknamed “Marines”.
Many discussions had also taken place about him for the doping investigation, which involved Juventus at the time.
Giampiero Ventrone died at the Fatebenefratelli Hospital in Naples, where he was born, and his funeral will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga. During these hours, several farewell messages have arrived from many protagonists of the world of football on social networks, in addition to the various fans of his former teams.
