‘Mortal Kombat 2’: Kung Lao interpreter gives a clue to the character’s future

The text below contains SPOILERS!

In the plot of ‘Mortal Kombat’, Kung Lao (Max Huang) ends up being assassinated by Shang Tsung (Chin Han) when the villain invades the temple where the Champions of Earth trained for the tournament.

After breaking up with Nitara (Elissa Cadwell) in a bloody scene, Lao suffers the wrath of Tsung, who drains his life energy by uttering the classic line:

“Your soul is mine.”

In the history of the games, Kung Lao is also assassinated, but at the hands of Shao Kahn, and is resurrected by the witch Quan Chi, who transforms him into a vengeful spirit.

And it looks like the film’s sequence could adapt that plot.

On his Twitter profile, Huang gave a hint about the character’s future, writing:

“Kung Lao fans, listen to me! As Albert Einstein said: “Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it can only be changed from one way to another. “

By the way, director Simon McQuoid spoke to Variety and did not rule out the return of some characters.

“If you watch the game, the characters die and are resurrected, which brings new plot arguments to the table in a really interesting way. I think maybe we can learn from the games and try to do something interesting with the adaptations.

However, he said the deaths in the film were not trivial and that not all of the dead characters could return to the footage.

Additionally, a resurrected character will not be the same as before, which fits Lao’s fate in the games.

“I don’t want the deaths to be seen as trivial. And I want to leave a big asterisk on my statement: Just because there is a possibility of resurrection, doesn’t mean everyone can be brought back. And those who are brought back are not the same as before.

Although international critics are slaughtering the reboot of ‘Mortal Kombat’, the film has won a considerable box office, which should guarantee the sequences.

With just 55% probation on Rotten Tomatoes, the film made $ 22.5 million in its first US opening weekend.

It’s worth mentioning that the first adaptation of “Mortal Kombat,” released in 1995, debuted with US $ 23.2 million – which further underscores the reboot’s success, given how complex it is today.

In total, the reboot has already grossed $ 51.1 million worldwide.

In Brazil, “Mortal Kombat” has seen its premiere postponed once again and won’t hit the big screen until May 20.

Watch the trailer:

Simon McQuoid (“Premonition 5”) is responsible for the staging.

MMA fighter Cole Young, used to being beaten for money, is unaware of his legacy – or because Emperor Outworld Shang Tsung sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, a Cryomancer from another world, to hunt Cole. Fearing for the safety of his family, Cole sets out to find Sonya Blade and Jax, a special forces major who carries the same strange dragon that Cole was born with. Soon he finds himself in the temple of Lord Raiden, an ancient God and protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with seasoned warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and devious mercenary Kano, as he prepares to take on Earth’s greatest champions against enemies of Outworld in a high-risk battle across the universe. But will Cole be under enough pressure to unlock his arcane – the immense power in his soul – in time to not only save his family, but also stop Outworld once and for all?

The cast includes Joe Taslim (Sub Zero), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Mehcad Brroks (Jax) Josh Lawson (Kano), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Sisi Stringer (Mileena).

The new feature will be for over 18 years, with the promise of a lot of violence and death.

Released in 1995, the first adaptation of “Mortal Kombat” had a budget of $ 18 million and grossed $ 122.1 million at the global box office.

The sequel, “Mortal Kombat – Annihilation,” cost $ 30 million, but only raised $ 51.3 million worldwide.

Both have been slaughtered by critics.
