Giorgia Meloni won the confidence in the Chamber of Deputies with 235 yeses: “The course is drawn, let’s move forward”. There were 154 votes against and 5 abstentions. 389 deputies out of 400 voted.
The path will not be easy, because of the emergencies to be dealt with, first of all the expensive invoices. Italy is “a ship in a storm”. But she assures that she leads a “competent crew” and that she will give everything, even at the cost of “not being re-elected”.
Trust the Senate today
She defined herself as an underdog, “once again I’m going to overturn the predictions”. After the confidence of the House, it is now the turn of the Senate. “I thank all the political forces for having listened to the programmatic lines that the Executive intends to implement to relaunch Italy. Tomorrow I will be in the Senate for another important piece, ”tweeted the Prime Minister.
Government Meloni, Letta (Pd): “We did not understand what you are going to do in the coming months”
“There are several reasons why you have not convinced us and for this reason we will vote no to confidence,” said Enrico Letta, secretary of the Democratic Party. “We have not understood what you are going to do in the coming months. We did not understand what will happen to the bills of the Italians, about decoupling and on the gas roof and we did not understand what will happen. We have not understood anything about what the finance law will be”.
“We understood a word: amnesties”
The secretary also addresses the tax issue: “We only understood one word: amnesties. He won’t find us there. We will do our duty to the end, we will collaborate without ambiguity because we are alternative. For example, on Ukraine we will be able to make choices together without fear”.
Government Meloni, Conte (M5S): “Thank God they were ready”
Same attitude of the 5 Star Movement: “From President Meloni more than an empty hour of rhetoric, seasoned with so many demagogic slogans and the usual cultural references of the right. Citizens, however, have not heard a single word about solutions to high bills and the energy crisis. Luckily they were ready. Thus Giuseppe Conte on Twitter, commenting on the speech in the hemicycle for the confidence of the Prime Minister.
Calenda (Third pole): “Good on the DRC and international positioning in Italy”
On the other hand, a more conciliatory attitude towards the Meloni government comes from the Third Pole. Calenda says they will oppose the issues, but called the Prime Minister’s speech to the House a ‘shopping list, filled with tons of rhetoric. No trace of how to do things. No choice or idea of country. It’s quite a “but also”. It looked like an intervention by Conte, other than a sovereign revolution. A deadly boredom, ”tweeted the leader of Action.
However, as mentioned, there are issues on which the Third Pole will support the government: “Good on citizenship income and Italy’s international positioning. Nice part about women. The rest is crap.”
