Meghan Markle burst onto the British scene after marrying Prince Harry. Their fairy tale at court did not last long and the couple finally decided to abandon their royal duties and move to America. But recently, the Duchess of Sussex confessed that she worked hard at first to obtain British citizenship.
During the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast, indeed, Prince Harry’s wife opened up about how she approached studying to become a UK citizen by following the rules. However, like in many other countries, the process of acquiring citizenship is long and complicated.

The first condition is to have reached the age of majority and not have a criminal record. In addition, the person applying for citizenship must have resided in the UK for at least five years and prove that they have not spent more than 450 days abroad. Ultimately, however, everyone has to pass a test which, it seems, has put the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the test.

The test in question presents questions that may relate to the values, history, traditions and daily life of the British. To overcome it, therefore, it is necessary to know the habits and customs of the place well and, for this reason, it can be difficult for those who know little about the country. Meghan Markle has admitted she found the UK citizenship test difficult.

After announcing her engagement to Prince Harry in November 2017, she confirmed that she intended to become a UK citizen. But things turned out to be more difficult than expected and ironically even Prince Harry couldn’t help her, despite being a full English citizen. Indeed, during her interview, the Duchess of Sussex confronted Pamela Adlon, who obtained the citizenship of the United Kingdom a few years ago.
