In an interview with Gizmodo, David Harbour, who will reprise his role as Red Guardian in “Thunderbolts,” revealed that the MCU Phase 5 feature will “drop a bombshell” on the iconic superhero pantheon.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said. “It’s going to be weird, there’s going to be action. And we’re also going to reveal a bombshell, it’s going to be shocking, which is pretty cool.”
The team in question consists of Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow II, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, David Harbor as Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Coach, and Sebastian Stan like Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier.
In another interview, this time with ComicBook.com, Harbor revealed how the heroes will come together to form the iconic team.
“It’s one of the first mysteries. I made a joke that it was like ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ where you walk into a tavern and there’s a dwarf drinking a beer and an elf in the corner, we all get together and then there’s this ghost… he said.

The actor continues, “But I think one of the mysteries of the movie is their relationship and, as you say, there’s a lot of exciting stuff as we wrap up this next phase, in terms of their role in this universe. So, you know, I can’t say too much right now, but there’s a really good introduction to how this team comes together, and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Jake Schreier (Frank and the Robot) is set to direct, while Eric Pearson (Black Widow) is in charge of the screenplay.
“Thunderbolts” will conclude Phase 5 of the MCU, with the premiere scheduled for July 26, 2024.
