The lips have a distinctive role: they convert emotions of any intensity into unique expressions, which speak of us. Today, like never before, our faces are increasingly exposed and the center of attention.
We think of selfies, video calls, reels and all the digital tools that, putting us in the foreground, point out our flaws and let thoughts, emotions and feelings shine through through our dynamic way of expressing ourselves.

The progressive overexposure to the digital mirror goes hand in hand with the increase in the demands for care of the lips, an extremely expressive part of the face. It is important that this desire coincides with an appropriate enhancement of the authentic beauty of each, without falling into excess. Based on this fundamental principle, IBSA Derma, the dermo-aesthetic division of IBSA Farmaceutici, thanks to the know-how and scientific expertise on hyaluronic acid and the collaboration with international experts, has developed a new approach that takes the name of EgoLips. The goal is to sublimate the lips, their uniqueness and their expressiveness.
The choices of millennials
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 2.6 million procedures were performed in 2018 alone, with a 312% increase between 2000 and 2017. This trend is also driven by millennials (+30.6% ) which require lip treatments from the age of 20. The use of social media and the overexposure to the digital “mirror” lead on the one hand to a growing need for greater care of one’s appearance, and to on the other hand to greater knowledge and acceptance of aesthetic medicine procedures, thus overcoming the taboo linked to these.
The #Egolips campaign
IBSA Derma is committed every day to highlighting how each of us is a masterpiece and through the new global campaign #Egolips invites people to remember to preserve their uniqueness. Each ego is associated with the description of a specific personality in which one can find themselves and thanks to the Egolips Instagram filter users can find out which ego is expressed by their lips.
The mirror lips of our soul
The lips are in the spotlight every day and the aesthetic doctor must today respond to the expectation of results with a strong emotional charge. IBSA Derma’s approach aims to preserve authentic beauty, that which comes from within, starting from the desires of patients (EGO), seeking the defense of expressiveness (inner beauty) while respecting the symmetry of features of each (shape).
“Patient requests are increasingly precise and sophisticated, even among the youngest. We are in an era of self-maximization, not stereotypical beauty, and it is essential that aesthetic medicine satisfies emotional content in an ethical and professional manner. EgoLips starts from three different interpretations of the beauty of the lips as a medium of communication with the patient, to offer the way that best expresses their being”, said Dr. Riccardo Forte, surgeon and aesthetic doctor, professor at Federico II University from Napoli.
The face plays a central role because it is the main expressive element through which we give the first impression of ourselves, in the center of which are the lips. These are the seat of emotions, but they also indicate our ability to communicate by mimicry, an important aspect of our identity, of our ego. The beauty of the lips becomes the harmony of detail. Beauty in general is not absolute perfection, but bringing out the masterpiece that is already in us, and taking care of the detail and our uniqueness.
