According to Variety, producer and actor Leonardo DiCaprio will produce a new original series called “The Island”, based on the novel by famous revolutionary writer Aldous Huxley.
The story revolves around a cynical journalist who is shipwrecked on the fictional and utopian island of Pala, in the Indian Ocean. Initially on a mission to explore local natural resources, he discovers a society that has developed independently and embraces people, their culture and traditions – including psychedelic adventures and alternative social structures. Your experience ultimately changes the course of your assignment.
First published in 1962, the book is the last published during his lifetime by Huxley and features Englishman Will Fanarby. Throughout the story, the author tackles themes such as drugs, education, sex, health, nature, religion, class struggle and many more.
DiCaprio will be responsible for the project alongside frequent collaborator Jennifer Davisson. Roee Sharon and George DiCaprio join as executive producers.
The actor is known for several roles in the cinematic sphere, including “Titanic”, “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “The Aviator” and “Island of Fear”. His most recent project was “Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood” by Quentin Tarantino. In 2021, he resumes his partnership with Martin Scorsese in the next ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, which will be released at Apple.
Huxley is known for his extensive literary output, including the masterpiece “Brave New World”, which received a serialized version by Peacock, starring Demi Moore. His other novels include “The Doors of Perception”, “The Demons of Loudun”, “The Monkey and the Essence” and many others.
