‘Kickboxer’, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s seminal film, will win a TV series

According to Deadline, ‘Kickboxer’, one of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s most classic fight movies, will now win a TV series from ‘The Fast and the Furious’ creator.

The name will be ‘Operation: Kickboxer’ and it seems a little absurd: with a spy feel, the series will follow a CIA agent dressed as an MMA fighter who travels the world on a mission while maintaining appearances as a champion of the Octagon.

As far as we know, the show will air on streaming services. The project will have Gary Scott Thompson as showrunner, the screenwriter responsible for creating the characters of 2001’s “Fast and the Furious.” He also wrote films such as “The Man Without a Shadow” (2000) and “88 Minutes.” . (2007).

‘Kickboxer: The Dragon Challenge’ is a 1989 movie that follows a man named Kurt Sloane (Van Damme) who must learn to master the martial art in order to get revenge on those who killed his brother. After becoming an ’80s classic and launching its lead actor’s career, it earned six more sequels. It is available on Globoplay.

The series will be produced by Todd Garner, responsible for the latest film “Mortal Kombat” (2021), and Dimitri Logothetis of Jiu-Jitsu (2020). It’s uncertain if the show will be set in the same universe as the movies, nor will there be Van Damme’s involvement.
